Last Sunday I made a portrait photo session with Ukrainian model Anna, from Lutsk. The location was an old villa in the province of Piacenza.
I took many pictures, here's some of them.
I used the 5D Mark II with the Contax Planar 1.4/85 only.
Since I will give some of the photos to the girl, for her portfolio, I have done something unusual for me, I made some PP work in some photos.
Thanks for viewing. Smile

Nice ones! You should start a new carrier Wink

Thanks Smile

I forgot to say, except for those in front of the curtain (for which there were two lamplights), all other photos are taken with available light only, there wasn't even a reflection panel available - very spartan setup Smile sunlight only.

Quite a nice series; I like how you master the Planar. There's no substitution for a great 85mm f/1.4 lens on FF and a good photographer to master it.

Cool

Amazing shots of a very attractive girl taken by a talented photographer!
That kind of sums it up... Wink

Thanks !

I just noticed I stupidly posted this thread in the Digital gallery - it belongs to Oversized instead - so here it's moved.

Orio you lucky sonofa--, nevermind, superb results and I'm all for using
just natural light if possible, for the colors.

Beautiful work using my favorite subject matter. Wink

Orio,

Very nice set!. My favourite is the portrait in red, perfect focus in the eyes and outstanding composition, (as they are all of them).

Thanks for sharing.

(No more flattering comments on the model herself Wink ).

Regards,

Jes.

WOW, very strong series.

Like #5 a lot. She looks very natural there.

It's amazing, she fits in any outfit... #3 serious, #1 teeny/funky, #6 latex Smile, #8 flamenco ... fits all perfect.

Cheers
Tobias

#4 for me
Nice atmosphere and a bit of mystery.
Cute Bird!

+1 for #4, really great capture ... Ready for Amica Wink ...

Thank you guys!
My personal favourite is #7, the B&W one with the eyeglasses
#8, the portrait in red, is actually a quite small crop from a whole figure photo that for the rest did not convince me. This shows the power of the 5DMkII, you can take a whole figure photo and use only a part of it for a close up portrait, there is enough resolution for that.

I have other photos from this session that I am working on, I'll post them and you will please help me choose the better ones. Smile

Orio you are too good photographer-artist! #7, #6, and #2 is my favorite. May your photos help boost her career international! (You already world star Smile)

Off-topic, if not already she should have that bump on outside of lower left leg looked at by physician. Most likely nothing serious; she has good health in her eyes.

Very appealing results, Orio. I look forward to more of them.

I agree, #7 & #8 are great. Not that the rest are not. Beautiful photos and model.

Great pictures Orio!

One question: did you shoot these with aperture priority?

The reason I ask is because I have the same equipment but have problems focusing accurately. I read somewhere that this could be because the focus shifts slightly with the aperture.

Yes, aperture priority, but with an eye always on the shutter speed, to make sure it never gets slower than 1/125. And using exposure compensation on the fly.
During these workshops aperture priority is almost a must. There are other photographers, the model adjusts or changes pose every 10-15 seconds, the location changes every 5 minutes or so, and you just don't have the time to meter the light manually. It is already hard to keep up with the other shooters who all use autofocus while you have to use the first seconds of every new pose to adjust focus manually. You have to rely on your experience and on RAW recovery.

Also, since I am not accepting the standard point of views by default, I keep wandering around the set while the other shooters pretty much stay where they are. This attitude gives me some weird shots but also some unique ones (at least I hope so). You need the help of the model when you do so, she has to be willing following you and giving you some eye contact from all positions. Not all models do, but luckily Anna developed a sympathy for me after I showed her my first shots in the camera preview, so she's been willing to follow me all the time. This graced many of my shots so I have to thank her for this.
Then every now and then it comes your turn to direct the model and choose the place and the pose, which is the best of course. In the photos that I posted, #4 and #7 were arranged by me. In the photos that I will show next there will be another 2-3 sets that I arranged myself.
