Today I fond a copy of this lens at a thrift store. It was marked to sell at $22 and today was 50% off sale on all items. So I got this lens for $11. The front plastic threaded cap was cross threaded. The clerk could not remove it to identify the lens. To be perfectly honest I did not know what the focal length was until I got home. I have 2 filter wrenches and quickly could remove the cap. The condition is excellent with nearly perfect body and glass. Honestly the performance is a disapointment. You can check this thread:

from our memeber KhanX. My tests showed similar results. It could be pleasant for dreamy soft focus portraits on a cropped cam. I was shocked to find a recent auction on peebay that finished at a $500 BIN. It is a nice compact and smooth lens to use. To bad it is not such a great performer. Smile

Hi sunshine,
for $11 you can make any experiment for fun but for $500 you should expect the top.
I could not evaluate this lens based on Khanx samples and your experience interest me
Did this lens is soft at all aperture or didn't you like the bokeh ?

Hi Poilu
I have been reading a little bit about this lens. It seems the high price is driven by collectors. It is one of the early retrofocus designs for 35mm slr cameras. Therefore some feel it belongs in a historical collection. I don't think it is a top lens. This copy I found is m42. I will test it more with real subjects and sunlight soon. I think the bokeh from KhanX shots is ehh, but not bad. Maybe I should send the lens to Maxim. He seems to make the most of cooky bokeh lenses. I have only made shots of indoor items so far. A real test is needed.

What a lucky strike! To find this lens for $11!!!
Even if you don't like the lens' performance, keep if for a while and perhaps sell it for good money if you want to buy another lens.

These Angenieux lenses were tested with rather mediocre results in German magazines. But they have a "name"!
