I think that lens is the same as a 'Super Travenar' that I had some time ago, which I'm sorry to say....was the worst lens I've had. I don't know who made it but it can be found with many different brand names. _________________ LENSES & CAMERAS FOR SALE.....

Yes, the origins are going to be a puzzle I think.
Did you shoot these images wide open?
The reason that I ask is that they appear soft in their focusing sharpness.
Colour is not too bad but I am wondering if the lens sharpens up a bit more with stopping down.
Cheers

Yes, you are right.
Maybe it can be used for soft effects shooting:)
At f8 there would be much better sharpness in a good lens.
This one looks like it gives very ordinary results.

Based on the livery style I am betting tomioka. looks an awful lot like this:
Many of the examples I have seen have 2 silver design lines of polished aluminum on either side of the pebble pattern leather focus ring. The other characteristics I see are the orange lettering and red dot with line for index mark.
Frequently seen as Hanimex or other import label. _________________ photos are moments frozen in time |

tomioka was a contract lens supplier. My guess is they were manufacturing to a price point. They were capable of making stellar performers like the revuenon labelled 1.2's but I have used a Hanimex labelled 135mm 2.8 that was just average. I am pretty sure I have seen examples in the Focal brand (K-marts house brand). Anybody else want to chime in? _________________ photos are moments frozen in time |

Yeah, I have (had?) a Focal 28mm f/2.8 that I bought several years ago out of a thrift shop. Paid less than $4 for it. Shortly after I bought it, a "send your lens around the world" project got started here, so I donated my Focal 28 to the cause. The lens got stalled out somewhere on the other side of the world from me and that's the last I heard about it. Glad I paid only <$4 for it. Anyway, I found a thread I started on the lens here, shortly after I bought it:
http://forum.mflenses.com/focal-28mm-f-2-8-m42-t45736,highlight,%2Bfocal+%2B28mm.html
If the person who has it reads this, I'd still like to have my lens back, cheap price paid or no. It's a good optic and worth hanging on to. _________________ Michael

Two quite good lenses that often go cheaply are the Canon FL 28mm f3.5 and the Mir-1 37mm in M42 mount.
Both are much better than the lens above

In that case I'd recommend Sigma 19/2.8 for wide and Samyang 12/2.0 for superwide. _________________ my flickr stream |

No, i've buyed those AR lenses on a flea market for about 3 euro.
I've restored it, was dirty and full of dust inside the elements.
Now, I will order the konica adapter and i hope to use it . The rest of lenses? |

Well, I cannot speak for the zooms as I have not tried them.
However, apart from the Avanar, the other prime lenses should be OK.
You might even find other excellent lenses there like the 40mm.
It is so hard to make a bad 135mm lens that I would guess that it is good as well, and likewise the 50mm

No - that is an excellent lens but needs a focusing helicoid.
There aren't that many adapters for it around, but you might find one from Poland or Ukraine.
