I have forgotten who mentioned the Accura tube system - and I would like to thank them for the pointer. I managed to buy a complete set in M42 thread - new old stock in very battered boxes. I have just started to use them today and I am overjoyed by the results. The focusing tube is brilliant - much more rigid and controllable than a bellows in many ways and perfect for use with my enlarging lens. I will post samples when I have something worthwhile.

Gosh, Patrick, we can't wait that long, just post some samples! Laughing Luis
is the guy that first mentioned this, and I did a post to his thread about
finding a set and am still waiting for them to arrive from Australia!

Looks like this poilu - courtesy of Luis:

It's basically an extension tube with a focus helix - like a lens with no glass and lens mounts either end.

Thanks Attila, this is really fun. Completely manual operation like the old days!

Bill, you are going to enjoy this. What a way to put one of these great enlarging lenses back into circulation.

You are very welcome !

This is a great place to learn things, I've certainly gotten a lot from all the experts around here.

Luis
I was so carried away that I picked up a Rodagon zoom (42-50) this morning for $30! Did not even know they made zoom enlargers.

Hi Patrick,

The Accura focusing tube is very useful, but a 50mm enlarger lens (or the enlarger zoom you found) probably isn't going to work as a normal lens on it. It is 40mm minimum, and add to that the flange focal distance of @45mm. I figure the shortest enlarger lens that will work with infinity focus is probably 75-80mm, depending.

There are helicoids with M42 on boths end used from astronomers. Hutech sells them, but they come from Japan. Three different lengths available, I have them all, very nice, but $150 a pop - not for the cheapies...
