The Yashica ML 55mm f/2.8 macro is probably my favorite short macro lens. All images are shot handheld. Clickable for full size and full quality.
First image, shot wide open:
YashicaML5528macro by devoscasper, on Flickr
100% crop:
YashicaML5528macro100%crop28 by devoscasper, on Flickr
Not bad, is it?
Next image, aperture = f/8:
YashicaML5528macro_12 by devoscasper, on Flickr
100% crop:
YashicaML5528macro_12crop by devoscasper, on Flickr
Two dandelian shots:
YashicaML5528macro_9 by devoscasper, on Flickr
YashicaML5528macro_10 by devoscasper, on Flickr
@ f/2.8, the lens draws very sharp. Also outside the center:
YashicaML5528macro_11 by devoscasper, on Flickr
Another image to illustrate this, also shot @ f/2.8.
YashicaML5528macro_6 by devoscasper, on Flickr
Let's check out the extreme corner:
YashicaML5528macro_6cornercrop28 by devoscasper, on Flickr
Another poppy image @ f/2.8:
YashicaML5528macro_5 by devoscasper, on Flickr
100% crop:
YashicaML5528macro_5crop28 by devoscasper, on Flickr
Another image to show the sharpness wide open:
\ YashicaML5528macro_2 by devoscasper, on Flickr
100% crop:
YashicaML5528macro_2100%crop28 by devoscasper, on Flickr
An incredible clean image. No CA's are visible, despite the sun being behind the subject.
A fly, I forgot the aperture, but probably around f/8:
YashicaML5528macro_13 by devoscasper, on Flickr
100% crop:
YashicaML5528macro_13crop by devoscasper, on Flickr
Some more images:
YashicaML5528macro_8 by devoscasper, on Flickr
YashicaML5528macro_4 by devoscasper, on Flickr
YashicaML5528macro_3 by devoscasper, on Flickr
I can wholeheartedly recommend this lens. Unfortunately it is not very common. _________________ For sale (i have both lenses double):

Here in the Netherlands they're both quite uncommon. Have you tried the f/4 as well? _________________ For sale (i have both lenses double):

The images of the 100mm I’ve seen looked excellent. _________________ For sale (i have both lenses double):

I have a 100mm too but I think it's an f/4. It's from a Dental-Eye camera. _________________ Moderator Himself |

Interesting, that’s quite surprising.
I’m curious whether it’s lens design is actually similar to the 100/3.5 macro.
The 100/3.5 is supposed to be pretty good at infinity, but your ‘dental’ version has no need to be. You have some sample images? _________________ For sale (i have both lenses double):

No samples.
I bought it around 6-7 years ago, took it apart, shot some pictures, went back into aluminum suitcase.
I find some time this week I'll try to take some pictures with it . _________________ Moderator Himself |
