A trip to the Alps

Last weekend I had a great trip to the Alps. With a couple of friends I climbed mount Triglav (2864m), the highest peak of Slovenia and the Julian Alps. We were lucky with the weather and caught some great morning light. In the end I used my autofocus Sigma 19mm more than 95% of the time (so I'm posting in the AF sections) but I did also use some manual focus glass as well. Modern Samyang 12mm/2.0 and vintage Minolta 135mm/3.5 and Carl Zeiss Jena Pancolar 50mm/1.8 were used for a few shots.

A "short" photoreportage:

1. Final stop at the mountain hut (Planika, 2401m) before tackling the summit at 2 in the morning, some 5 hours after starting the trek way down in the valley below:

2. Enjoying the sunrise from the top of the mountain:

3. Last remains of winter snow and a once mighty glacier that melted in the last decades due to global warming, lit up by the first rays of the sun:

4. Beautiful morning light, just minutes after sunrise:

5. Some fog crept over the top just as I was getting ready to head back down, resulting in a beautiful gloria effect:

6. Closeup of the glacier, or what remains of it:

7. The Planika mountain hut almost 500m below the summit looks so close but in reality it's a one and a half hour away:

8. The Triglav ridge in the forground with the Krma valley behind:

9. A view over to the Kredarica hut and meteorological station (2539m) on the opposite side of the mountain:

10. Some beautiful alpine flora:

11. Alpine sheep:

12. Contemplating which way to go next:

13. A smaller peak of unknown name (to me) looking over a nice alpine meadow:

14. Upper Krma valley:

15. A shepperd's hut with Kurica (2029m) in the background:

It wasn't easy, and even a little painful in the end and it took us almost 16 hours counting all the stops and breaks but it was well worth it. Smile
