I'm happy that you like it, Carsten!
Unfortunately, I could not provide you with a body cap, because I bought the camera without one Sad

P.S. The battery is nearly new. Be careful not to inadvertantly discharge it by leaving the camera on. I did it a couple of times. It's easy to forget about it because the power switch is together with the mode selector.

Don't worry about the body cap, I have a spare one.

I am playing around with. It feels much more "pro" than my EOS 500.
And tell you what, the eye control AF works perfectly. This is a fun thing. I don't know if I will use it a lot, but it's fascinating.

Yes, I know about the "leave-a-cam-on-which-drains-batteries-effect" well. Sad
Thanks for mentioning it again.

Now, I have to find out which manual lenses will work with this cam.

BTW: for any other 50e user, I have found two nice sites:

http://www.eosdoc.com/manuals/?q=EOS50E

http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/eos/eoscamera/EOSElanIIE5055/index.htm

As for manual lenses, my experience is:

- Nikon: they work well also with chipped adapter

- Leica: they work well also with chipped adapter

- Contax: they work only with non-chipped adapter (plus there are the same mirror clearing limitations as in the 5D)

- M42: can't remember, probably I never tried them Embarassed

Thanks.

Is there anything that I have to consider?

While the Zuiko 1.4/50 and the Nikkor 2/35 can easily be mounted, the cam will not take a picture. The shutter releases but then the cam freezes and has to be turned off an on.
This does not happen with AF lenses.

And how do I get the AEL button(*) to work? It won't lock in.
Any idea?

Have you tried with non chipped adapters? What you describe happened to me with Contax lenses and chipped adapters. With a non chipped adapter the camera worked ok.

The same effect occurs with a chipped or a non-chipped adapter. Question
If I press the shutter button again, it start to work again.
As if the first push releases the first curtain and the second push on the button the second curtain... Strange.

AEL (Auto Exposure lock) is the star button (*) that remembers the metered exposure setting for recomposing the pic. It doesn't react.

Maybe the mirror is hitting the lens when coming down (it may have enough force to touch the back of the lens slightly when going up but becomes stuck when going down).

Unfortunately matching adapters with cameras can be a game of hit or miss Rolling Eyes
There is big variations between them, several of my CY adapters block the shutter of my 5D as well. Confused While they worked well on my 400D (and this is the reason why I didn't trash them)

I think I never tried the star button. Embarassed Usually I just do by keeping the shutter button half pressed, this remembers the exposure until you press down all the way to shoot.

If you are not happy Carsten, no problem, I will give you the refund. Let me know.

No, no, Orio. Don't worry about a refund or something. This 50e is a very nice cam and I enjoy it a lot. The first roll is already finished.
I can use AF lenses wihtout problem and I will work out a solution for MF lenses. Wink

Carsten,

I don't know if the 50E has a certain switch but I know the older EOS such as my EOS 1 has one inside the body.

Just below the lens mount (marked in the picture), is a small switch that needs to be moved and jammed in position for the camera to work properly with Manual lenses. I use a piece of stiff paper to hold it in place when using a chipped M42 adapter with various M42 lenses.

I'm not at home at the moment but I will send you a better picture of the switch this evening.

Check it out.

Jules
