lens: M42 mount 1988 Mitsuki 200/3.5
f stops: 3.5, 5.6, 8, 11, 16, 22
source: ebay.co.uk, 9$+10$ shipping

Hi, finally my 5 M42-EF adapters arrived and I made some quick test shots. I'm new to both MF and macro so it is still a bit hard for me to focus properly Smile I'm using a Seagull 2X angle finder and it helps in this process.

Gadget info: Canon 400D + M42 mount Mitsuki 200/3.5(9$+10$ shipping) + 56mm cheap extension tube ($5+$10 shipping) + M42-EF mount adapter ($9)

Here is my macro work (I applied some RAW process and sharpening) , you can also see the full resolution version at flickr :

And the photos of the lens, just a dent on the filter thread but using filters isn't a problem:

I've taken sharpness test shots at every f-stop value but they all looked like same, am I doing something wrong?

At Canon I'mjust shooting at manual setting by changing the shutter speed and doing nothing on the camera, I mean I just use the same settings as shooting with an AF lens. And for the focusing part I've focused at f:3.5 and didn't change the focus, I guess this is right cause I'm just changing aperture.

*My metering mode is partial metering.

Are you sure that the aperture blades are closing when you raise the aperture? If there is no m/a switch, you might have to stick the aperture pin on the lense in with some glue or something, or you will always have it wideopen. Look into the lens and see if the blades closes when you turn the aperture ring.

Yes aperture functioning is flawless, maybe I must find another test subject. As I shoot in house and 200mm needs more space it's hard to find proper subject but outside is nearly 40 celcius degrees and I don't want to leave the AC Smile

Anyone who hasn't enough experience can need compensation; of course it's better to shoot with the right settings but I need some more time to get use to MF only lenses Smile

Anyways as you wanted to see unedited version, here it is but I must admit that it need +1/3 exposure compensation Smile By the way, file is 4.3MB, exported to jpg without any compression via Adobe Lightroom from Canon RAW:

Hehe, I wasn't serious, everyone needs aid now and then, no matter how good you are. The lens is not stellar, but for that price I'd say it is quite a catch. I liked the unsharpened better though, but thats just me, I am not too found of the crystalsharp shots, I like it a bit "dirty" Wink.

It still amazes me what glass you can get cheap. I recommend you to look for a Super Takumar 55mm 1.8f and the Pentacon Electric 135mm 2.8f. Thats two, sometimes embarrasingly cheap lenses.

I'm a bit a serious type Razz
Thanks for the recommendations my Pentacon Electric 135mm 2.8f is on the way to me from UK Smile It's an used version but I give it a bit much due to it's condition, 37 pounds. And for the standart lens I've bought a Minolta Rokkor-X 50/1.4 for $45 and we will modify the Minolta MD mount an change it into EF mount by using a M42-EF adapter, the same process will be applied to my vivitar branded Kiron 28/2.
