Papasito asked in a separate thread .... which 55mm lens?
I was thinking that over many years I have owned a lot of different 55mm lenses, and I thought to dig into the crypt and see what images I might have made with them.
Of course these were all shot over a long period of time, and I have onsold many of these lenses, but what I had surprised me.
I will post an image from each one and label it so you can see which lens took which.
Please feel free to add your own samples to this thread.
Happy snaps

Impressive photos.
Gives me hope for my poor little Pentax K-01 with "only" 16 MP.
Perhaps we do not need 24 MP or 36 MP to produce great photos. |

I still don't have any camera with more than 16 Mp.
The 10Mp CCD sensor on the K-10D was amazing - sorry I sold it.
I have sold also most of those lenses for one reason or another.
The Mamiya 1.4/55 was the least sharp of them but it had the most beautiful way of painting its bokeh at widest aperture.

Heartily agree! FF Canon 5D Classic has only 12gb sensor, lol.
However, having to crop or print very large gives denser sensors distinct advantages! _________________ ☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮ like attracts like! ☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮

Absolutely beautiful samples--such an excellent contribution to all of us here--thank you. BTW, that bokeh (rose) shot with the Mamiya is splendid! Best jt
Edit: BTW, I shot w the Pentax K20d, but regretted it--the K10d, though an earlier model, did a much better job IMO. I got out of Pentax because of the experience with the K20d--been happy with Nikon APS-c and FF bodies and Fuji APS-c for almost 10 years now. _________________ Sabbapāpassa akaraṇaṃ kusalassa upasampadā

The EBC fujinon delivers great image ,but mamiya's got great painting - would be nice to have many lenses shooting same subject, even if that sounds imposible . Anyway, there such a big differencies between the lenses , thanks for sharing with us these pics ,at least to get an idea about them. |

In 55mm ,my favourite for bokeh is the Rokkor MC 1.7 PF and it's pretty cheap also. It doesn't have very good coatings like modern MD or SMC pentax etc. , but i find it very good sharpness and exccellent paint drawer ,a hood need it definetely. |

Interestingly of these lenses, I use the Takumars and the Auto Revuenon 1.2 the most.
I like the way that they paint.
Here are a couple of shots to show what I mean.

Very nice. I'm a big fan of the "painting" I get from my copy of this lens as well. Does your have thorium elements or not? Mine's an older non-radioactive version. |

Excellent pictures, I love that Mamiya 55mm 1.8 rendering, I may have to try it out. I have been looking for a 55-58mm to add to my Fuji kit as a portrait lens, tried a few already but there's still so many options... The ones that have impressed me most thus far are the Pentax 55mm 1.8/2.0 lenses, these put out some great image quality and they handle so amazingly well. Others that I've tried are the Minolta 55mm 1.7, Minolta 58mm 1.4, Canon FL 55mm 1.2, and Helios 44-2. Great lenses all of them, but they didn't wow me over like the Pentaxes have on crop sensor. _________________ http://northernwintersky.net/

Look at the Auto Rikenon 1,8/55 mm lens pics. The lens is the same as Mamiya one.
How do you compare the pentaxes 55 amd the Mamiya 55?
What do you think about them?
Differences? |
