I must say it has pretty low contrast wide open. But that is correctable in post and could be pretty useful for portraits. My copy still has fungus in it, I have yet to clean it. That may be part of the cause of the contrast. _________________ pentaxian |

Can't really tell much from the colours of these samples lighting conditions are different the greens have turned a shade darker since the first shot, where it had also just rained so there is more contrast in the wood because it is wet. _________________ pentaxian |

The Mamiya 50 / 2 is very good, but I like the 55 / 1.8 more, it really is an exceptional lens. Another one that gets overlooked is the Petri 55 / 1.8 which I think is equal to the Mamiya. It's a lens I regret selling.
And the Chinon 55 / 1.7 is good, as indeed are the Takumar 55 / 1.8 and 2. I quite like my Fujinon 55 / 1.8, but not as much as the others I've mentioned here so it rarely gets used. But the Fujinon 55 / 2.2 is a different thing entirely, and a very distinctive lens. _________________ LENSES & CAMERAS FOR SALE.....

I agree with Lloydy.
The mamiya 55 1,8 is an excellent lenses.
I have both, the first and the second (SX) formulas.
Can't try which is the best because my Nex 5 N is broken. |

I've been using the Mamiya/Sekor 50mm 1:2 for landscape images on my Sony A900, simply to experience how it feels apart from the usual testing. The lens is very sharp at f8 (and most vintage 1.7/1.8/2.0 50mm/55mm lenses are), but in addition it has nearly no CAs which results in very clear colors. A nice lens indeed.
