Just a question.

Is it logical to fit a 500mm f:8 russian lens to a nikon digital body (in my case to a D70s).
These lenses are abundant in Turkey. Even Nikon F mount lenses are readily available.
I guess the only problem will be the largest aperture of 8. Focus confirmation and most other things require minimum f:5,6.
Any comments or any experiences.

Regards,

Yucel

Not many 500mm lens available below f8 and if available diameter to large you can't connect to your Nikon body, because flash house makes it impossible. I suggest to take you a Tamron SP 500mm f8 or a Tamron SP 350mm f5.6 (expensive)

I know same fast Mirror lenses from Carl Zeiss they are very expensive ,but 500mm f4.5 Shocked

Fastest mirror lens on low price 3M 500mm f6.3 very sharp but huge lens, you can connect only cameras like Olympus E-1 or E-300 where is no flash house or flash.

You will find full instructions on fitting Russian Mirror lenses to cameras with overhanging flash housings on the Sales site. It is no problem
I use a Rubinar f4.5 300mm on my cameras and I have tried the 500mm as well.

Thanks for all replies,

I think I'll stick to my 70-300mm zoom. Most reviews about 500mm mirror are generally negative.

BTW, This is where I found this lens.

May interest some of you. 1 EURO is 1,9 YTL if you need to make comparisons.

I use a Tamron 500mm SP f8 on my D200 and get reasonable results (there's a thread somewhere in the gallery with a fair few samples).

I had a look at some of the Russian mirrors and most of them won't mount without an extension ring or optical converter.
