I have a 50mm 1.8 Oreston Meyer-Optik Görlitz and a 50mm 1.8 Pentacon auto MC. This are the same lenses?

From what I've heard they are indeed the same lens. Pentacons are said to have a lesser build quality in comparison, not to say they are bad just not the caliber of meyer, and possibly a more modern multi-coating (adding, maybe, to contrast and flare protection) but the glass is the same. Both follow the same lens design: double-gauss. This is what most lenses of this length and speed are, including the famed pancolar.

Yes, both are the same lens. The same design (6 elements in four groups). Both are meyer's lens. Pentacon is MC and the last oreston were between single coated and MC (like the last models of super takumar). The pentacon is cheaper build, but the glases are the same for both.
Very good lens, the best at F/8. Pentacon is better in the flare camp and more contrast too. I have a oreston that, at F/8 is a bit sharper that my pentaon at F/8, but may be copy problems.

Good luck.

What I've manage to understand, Pentacon uses the exact same lens design Meyer does, however applies multi-coating. Unfortunately, this ends up reducing sharpness (?), as coatings change the refractive coefficients of the glass elements..
Again, its only what I've heard/read, I've yet to pick up a Meyer (they have some beautiful lenses :p pentacon doesnt look so nice in my opinion Wink )

Me too. Sometimes it was reality confirm, sometimes not (especially when the MC lens come with more elements to improve the border rendition of the lens)

Here a sample with the Pentacon 50/1.8 MC from the "Bergtheater Thale".

I use a new M42-Adapter with AF-confirm. I works fine and a sharp Shot is very easy.

Can you shot the same subjet with both, the oreston and the pentacon? At F/8 may be the best, in my experience. Thanks.
