A little riff off of 3 Mustaphas 3 (my tastes in music are a little diverse) and
the first one is using the Olympus 35SP, Fuji Xtra 400:

this one is using the Olympus XA2 and expired (3/96) TriX @400, HC-110E, 10mins, 23C

Exakta 500 with CZJ 4/135 Sonnar, Portra 160VC

Had these up before, but wanted to make sure it was OK to post 3.

I like the first one, it could be used to teach framing Smile , plus i like how the highlights clip with film, opposed to a digital sensor.

Tomas, thanks, I knew I should've posted just one. Laughing Embarassed

Yeah they're back again Wink

nr.1 is top notch
- exposure is very tricky with those type of high-contrast shots. it's just perfect.
- incredibble that there is still contrast/detail in the tunnel area. I could not
imagine gaining this with a digital cam.
- the compo with tunnel framing and subjects just on right spot can`t be better
- the curves of tunnel and footpath/water and shadow cohere wery well

nr.2
wants me to sit by the fountain and put my feet in Smile

nr.3
colors are superb
cause of the dark background there's some melancholia around.
a bit of a sad Lilia this one Wink

Cheers
Tobias

Tobias and Tony, thanks fellas, these are three of my faves and it's always nice
to receive feedback, one way or another! Smile

The tunnel is a favorite spot to test cameras and this is by far/so far, the best one I've taken.

Thanks again.

No 1: Great shot, great spot, great exposure

No 2: Nice tones and contrast, but a bit lacking in interesting subject

No 3: Great colours and exposure looks spot-on. Is it a big crop? I am sure I can see grain and that film isn't renowned for grain.

#1 superb! no doubt I like every single pieces on it. CONGRATS!
#2 is a casual shoot to me , simple okay.
#3 is my favorite flower too , usually come out very nicely.

Hey Bill,Is there anything that you may have done differently with each shot?...I mean did you just take the first shot or was it planned and thought about for awhile? Would you use a different film possibly?
I know, I am asking the questions Very Happy but not being a film user I want to know what you thought about each photo and did they portray what you had in mind?Or am I reading to much into it.. Laughing Embarassed

Wow, thanks folks for all the comments! Smile

Agree that #2 is rather boring, I like it for the exposure and tones more than anything else.

The flower shot is expired (very) Portra and is uncropped, probably underexposed and of course indifferent
processing from Wallies didn't help.

Moira, you actually think I have depth, that is so neat! Laughing But here goes:

#1 was a quick snap when I saw what I could put in the frame. Fuji 160S or Reala would have been nice, but you
use what you have at hand.

#2 was just a 'gee isn't the light interesting in the courtyard of the hospital' no more thought than that, sorry.

#3 I was hoping for the famed Portra colors, bloom was in some nice lighting.

Thanks again, folks!

I like the first one, Bill
Dang, the 14-years-expired Tri-X shows grain!! Shocked

Orio, thanks, I don't know what I did wrong with the TriX! Laughing

You did nothing wrong.
Expired colour film shows hue casts, expired B&W film shows grain.
Kinda sucks but that's the way it goes

Too true, thanks. Well, I just got some Reala and Fuji 400H in 120 yesterday, so will be doing more
color work in medium format.

I like all three !

#1 is just a great composition. A challenge for color film on the exposure range. but well handled !
#2 OK I like B&W and grain doesn't bother me near as much as digital noise. I like Tri-x for many subjects. 23degrees C may have been a little warm and helps promote grain. I don't use HC-110 much but cooler temps with Rodinal seem to help the grain a bit. Much more so with Beutler A+B.
#3 Well I like flowers ! Of course it's my job to like flowers Smile this one is pleasing !

Erkie, appreciate your input, thanks! Smile

I get terrible grain whenever I use Rodinal on Tri-X
So much that I stopped using it at all, and now Rodinal for me is confined to Agfapan use
except I'll perhaps try it with some Efke film I have in the fridge.
My best result with Tri-X are with Ornano Gradual ST-20 developer.
(not the cheapest of developer though, but I love it)

I've seen some awesome work with Efke/Adox using Rodinal stand 1:100. I plan on trying that combo, myself.

I need a lesson about stand development. I am curious about it but have no idea how to do it.

The one thing I think is important (and from several who use this method) is to have a global amount of
4ml. So with 35mm you'd have 400mls of solution (using Paterson), but I like this amount for safety, anyway.

Basically you agitate for one minute, slam it on the counter, wait an hour, and finish the development sequence.

Not much to it, really. If you want to push the film one stop, you could do 2-3 inversions at the halfway point.

Thanks!
I am upset this evening because I spotted a 1-unit Paterson tank at 10 EUros less than normal price, so I wanted to buy, but when I came back to the shop an hour later, it was gone Mad
Paterson tanks hold more liquid than the AP tanks that I use. Another advantage, they have a large cone so you can pour in the developer faster.
On the other hand, I like the AP spirals better, but they are compatible with Paterson tanks, so it's possible to get the best of both worlds.
