Hello
I was happy with a vivitar 24mm f2 ( usable from f2.8, too glowy before )
I sold it and get a canon FD 24mm f2.8 who is sharper and better corner.
Now i broke the canon FD and i'm looking for a new 24mm/25mm, cheap and good if possible.
I will not use it wide open. more for walk around shoot.
Or maybe get should i pay the price and get a wide zoom like a 16-35mm or a 20-35 (like a Nikon 20-35 2. or the sony SEL18-105mm ? ( i buyed a vivitar 19-35mm serie 1 and sold it, very bad lens )
The sigma 30mm f1.4 DN DC emount is very tempting also but i'm afraid it is not enough wide in some situation, I also have the sigma 19mm but it is too wide for general use for my taste.
Thanks for the advice |

Which version of the Hexanon 2.8/24mm do you mean? The earllier or the later, small one?

I think that the Canon nFD is a better choice than the Hexanon.
According to tests which I made , the Hexanon last generation ( compact , Tokina made) is even better but on cropped sensors only. |

+1 on that Hexanon lens. And a vote for the Minolta MC 2.8/24.
I "tested" them both some time ago: http://forum.mflenses.com/hexanon-2-8-24-vs-mc-w-rokkor-2-8-24-t74287,highlight,%2Bhexanon.html
There are many other reasonbly good choices in 24mm if you are using them on a crop sensor: RMC Tokina 2.8/24 and even the Cosina made 24mm (available in many brandnames) is very nice! I have an Exakta branded lens (for sale in lens sales)and it is a good performer, even on full frame:

I had that Exakta as well and it is indeed a solid lens, especially on crop. And very affordable. _________________ my flickr stream |

What happened to your FD 24/2.8?
Minolta makes some nice 24's
Yashica ML 24/2.8
OM 24/2.8 MC
I also liked the OM 21/3.5 on my NEX-7
My favorite lens on my NEX-7 is my Leica M 28/2.8 version 2, sharp, beautiful rendering, only slight colour shift, but the NEX-6 shouldn't have that problem, but it kinda destroys your budget. _________________ A Manual Focus Junky...

Since you're looking for a cheaper lens, I would recommend the Tamron 24mm f/2.5. I have one. I bought mine on eBay for $40, but it had been miscategorized and I was the only one who bid on it. I've seen the Tamron on eBay since and it usually has BINs ranging from $60-80.
It has a bit of flare wide open, but it's sharp to the corners of APS-C (haven't used it on anything full frame yet) and is actually sharper than my Nikkor 24mm f/2.8 once it's stopped down to f/5.6 or better. _________________ Michael

It's that one indeed. The only advantage of this one is the Minolta mount, mine has the Fuji X-mount, but the price difference does allow you to buy another adapter as well, which are always great to have around imho! the lens have a lot of fungus. I open it to clean it, i don't know why but the rear of the front lens is now very dirty, it is like grease mark with a lot of scratch but i only used sensor cleaner and glass cleaner, swap tab.

I just sold mine two days ago on ebay. I didn't like who it render, color and flare. canon fd is better.
In fact i got the vivitar 24mm f2, i put it in ebay with a lot of other stuff that i need to sell to make space.
I think i will end this action and keep the lens will i found a bargain.
I can get a sigma 17/35mm D 1:2,8-4DG HSM for 75 euros. Nikon mount. more versatil but don't know about optical quality. what did you think ?
What the difference between canon fd and nFD ? |

Funny, I decided to go with one range only to avoid having many adapters to take around... _________________ Antoine

Yes me too when i can.
I get a canon EF to sony nex. On this adapter i can use Olympus zuiko, rollei, leica R, contax, m42, nikon.
I avoid taking many big adapter with me, lighter. I still need one for canon FD and for minolta but i never take more than 2/3 lens so no big deal. |

Well, i do not carry all the adapters of course...... it's just a hobby, to try and play around with many different lenses and cameras, just for fun. When i go out shooting i usually take 2 or 3 lenses out of my Minolta collection, sometimes even just one.
I bet i am not the only one on this forum with a large collection of adapters! _________________ My Flickr photostream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/chantalrene/

EF-NEX AF Adapter
M42-NEX
Canon FD-NEX
MD-NEX (x2)
Zhongi Lens Turbo MD-NEX

Mostly just the mount, There are 3 versions, chrome nose FD with SC coating, SSC version which I have, and the nFD.
The breach lock can have the aperture engaged at all times so you don't have to use the adapters lock ring, the nFD can't do this.
