No idea who made this lens, I bought it because it is obviously the same lens as the Petri 1.8/55 just with a different name and M42 mount rather than the Petri bayonet.

I have several copies of the Petri version and it is a truly superb lens, easily the equal of a contemporary Takumar, Fujinon or Mamiya 1.8/55.

I found this old post I made with pictures from one of my copies of the Petri on an EOS 10D:

I like Petri lenses, no idea who made them though.

The 1.8/55 is a cracking lens, sharp wide open, swirly bokeh, nice colours and contrast, a personal favourite.

Some quick test samples from the M42 version on my Sony a850. I think I still like it as much as I did 6 years ago:

Interesting, an unmarked Petri lens.
I hope to buy one of those locally.
Did you buy your different copies on ebay?

Yes, all from ebay. I have had four or five of the Petri bayonet version, I have at least two left plus this M42 one. The first one I had I converted to EOS mount, not sure if I still have it or if I sold it.

Did you convert the bayonet versions to shoot with your Sony Nex?

No, I made my own adapter using a Petri bayonet fit teleconverter.

Petri's standard lenses were their own designs, and probably built in house. This lens, I suspect, was likely made for a store-brand camera manufactured by Petri.

I keep reaching for the Petri 55 / 1.8, mine's a mint M42 lens that came on a camera from a junk shop for £5, and it really is a great lens.

Here's some pictures taken with the Sony A600. No processing at all, mostly ISO 640 or less, mostly wide or one stop down, and the long exposure of the stream is 1.6 sec's on a tripod. The crop of the gravestone shows some nice bubble bokeh, nothing wild, just nice bokeh.
It's a super lens, it's sharp and the colour rendition is superb. everyone should have one.

Nice 3D.

How often does red just bleed into a mess of redness? this is as it comes - straight out of the camera.

Not an easy picture, hand held standing in the stream. It's 1/60th which in the crazy light wasn't bad.

The light in this deep dingle is weird, especially at mid day. Everything is an exaggerated green.

Nice one Dave, I particularly like that last shot, it has a certain 3d depth to it.

A good lens for sure.
Some lenses give us real joy when we use them.
Happy snaps
